Helping clients help themselves: Working as part of Scient's Innovation Lab, we helped CheckFree address the cost issues it was facing from its technical infrastructure. Using Scient's facilitated creative problem solving approach, we were able to help Checkfree develop a plan that resulted in a 75% cost reduction per transaction. The slides are large posters that we developed based off of our interviews and strategy development work.

Vectren

User-Centric Business Design: Vectren, a gas-electric utility in the mid-west, wanted to develop an entirely new business: Project MyHomeFriday. Contextual inquiry is critical to inform any business strategy. We spent 6 weeks performing contextual inquiry across Vectren's service area to develop our initial business strategy. Subsequently, we used research-developed profiles and 'scenario prototyping' to refine our offering.

eEnablement Visual Design: Vectren was so pleased with the visual design and creative strategy, it became the basis for all of Vectren's advertising including print and television. Included in this presentation is an overview of each of the main areas of Vectren's site, as well as excerpts from the visual design guidelines we created so Vectren can maintain their web presence on an ongoing basis.

eEnablement Content Strategy: Consistency in how a company communicates to its constituency is critical for building and maintaining a brand. Leveraging our findings from our contextual inquiry, we helped Vectren speak to each of their different constituencies in a contextually relevant way.

Boats.com

Information Architecture: Boats.com was an early Scient client. After launch of the intial destination site, I led the subsequent project that integrated revenue generation functionality into the site. The presenation is the final conceptual map for how these features are integrated. Included in this conceptual map are how customer service supports these functions.

Multi-National Telecommunications Provider

Track 1 Information Architecture: Again, informed by contextual inquiry, we developed an information architecture to support the sale of telecommunications services. We developed three different methods of navigating the site, based on the familiarity of the user : Narrative (for telco novices), Browse (for telco intermediates), and Dive (for telco experts).

By working with both customers and field sales personnel, we identified key areas for improvement. The presentation shows the evolution of the information architecture of the site, concluding with a sample from the site map.

Track 1 Content Strategy: Coordinating the content production for a multi-national organization is a significant challenge. As part of our Track 1 work, we re-wrote all of the content in the domestic web presence. As part of this work, we developed and documented new editorial platforms to ensure that furture additions to the site would be of the same voice.
